Is it us or is it getting difficult to keep up with the highlights at this ETMU and NMR conference? Today’s keynote by ✨Professor Eduardo Bonilla-Silva✨ laid our clearly what systemic racism is, how it operates, and how it has changed (and not changed) in these so called “modern” times. He addressed societal as well as personal perspectives and reminded us that there is no escaping systemic racism, which is not an excuse for bystanding. #thisisETMU #NMR #conference #systemicracism #keynote

❗️Today’s keynote ❗️was given by social and cultural anthropologist ✨Gloria Wekker✨, Professor Emerita at Utrecht University and King Willem Alexander Chair for Low Land Studies at the University of Liège, Belgium. And what an important talk it was! Gloria outlined the insidiousness of whiteness as it operates through the construction of white innocence. Many examples from the Dutch context she offered apply to Finland as well, including for instance the construction of colonial innocence by pointing to the absence of colonies and denying Finland's complicity in the European ethos of empire. #thisisETMU #NMR #conference #keynote #whiteness www.dukeupress.edu/white-innocence ... In his acceptance speech, Pasi underlined the importance of research on migration and ethnic relations and on its opposing forces and reminded us of the role and purpose of research to support peaceful and just living together in diversity. Warmest congratulations! #thisisetmu #etmuaward ... See MoreSee Less
