My name is Linda Bäckman and I am a researcher at the Swedish Department at Åbo Akademi University. My background is in sociolinguistics and I am interested in how languages works, both at the level of discourses around, for example, migration and integration, and in everyday situations of lived experience.
My current research focuses on integration and so called “new speakers” of Swedish in Finland.
This is my second year in the ETMU Board, and apart from being secretary I am involved particularly in the social outreach activities. Alongside ETMU, I am also active in the human rights association “We see you”, which works for better asylum politics in Finland. I like long conversations with nice people, being outdoors, and making lists.
