The\u00a0citizen’s\u00a0initiative\u00a0Lupa el\u00e4\u00e4 \u2013 Suomessa pitk\u00e4\u00e4n asuneille turvapaikanhakijoille my\u00f6nnett\u00e4v\u00e4 oleskeluluvat<\/a> [A Permit to Live \u2013 A Residence Permit to be Granted to Refugees Who Have Lived Long in FInland]\u00a0was\u00a0launched the\u00a0first of November 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of the reason is to solve a humanitarian crisis, which has been caused by long asylum processes and lack of documents. What can you do as a follower of ETMU? If you are a Finnish citizen, sign the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ETMU Stands in Solidarity with the Palestinian People<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an academic association that is concerned with issues of equity, migration, and colonization, ETMU speaks up against violations of the Palestinian people\u2019s human rights\u00a0and their dignity. ETMU stresses that situations of colonization, oppression, and apartheid cannot be considered as fights among equals. In the face of such gross injustice, we ask leaders, academics, and governments in Finland and all over the world to speak up and take action against the violation of Palestinians’ human rights at the hands of the Israeli state, and to ensure the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis to live in dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panelists discussed the relevance of Palestine for Finnish academia, colonial complicity, teaching and research practices that support Palestinian liberation and decolonization, pro-Palestine activism in Finland, the weaponization of education by the state of Israel against Palestinians, and more. The panelists had short presentations which were followed by questions and answers. The event was ended by a reading of a poem by Palestinian and Finnish artist Razan Askar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ETMU Stands in Solidarity with Dr. Faith Mkwesha<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2020, the Anti-Racist Research Network Raster released a statement<\/a> in support of Dr. Faith Mkwesha, who has faced the threat of sanctions for speaking up against racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Raster, we also feel it is the everybody’s responsibility to ensure that Black, Brown and other racialised minority people can tell about their experiences of racism and discrimination without being threatened by legal actions or other such negative repercussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
