My name is Linda Bäckman and I am a researcher at the Swedish Department at Åbo Academy University. My background is in sociolinguistics and I am interested in how languages works, both at the level of discourses around, for example, migration and integration, and in everyday situations of lived experience.

My current research focuses on integration and what it means for people in two mainly Swedish-speaking small towns, Ekenäs and Pargas.

This is my first year in the ETMU Board as a Deputy Member, and I am involved particularly in the social outreach activities. Apart from ETMU, I am also active in the human rights association “We see you”, which works for better asylum politics in Finland. I like long conversations with nice people, being outdoors, and making lists.
