I am Ilkhom Khalimzoda and I am currently employed as a Ph.D. student at the University of Jyväskylä. After starting my doctoral studies at the Turiba University (Latvia) in Communication Sciences, I got a chance to continue it in the University of Jyväskylä.
In my doctoral research, I examine immigrants’ cultural involvement (CI) and cultural preference (CP) in a bidimensional space formed by origin culture and destination culture in the context of Latvia and Finland. Together they offer a quantitative measure of variations in the structural relation and should reveal new insights into the acculturation process. I have among others worked at UNICEF Finland which served as a far-reaching experience of interpersonal communication, and also worked for the research project SIRIUS – Skills and Integration of Migrants, Refugees, and Asylum Applicants in European Labour Markets. Overall, I am building my expertise on the intersection of media, migration, and religion.
It is now two years since I joined the ETMU board. Among other things, I am responsible for membership matters as well as social/academic outreach.
